Chelwood Nursery School, like primary and secondary schools, is led by a Headteacher in partnership with the Deputy Headteacher and senior teachers. The school Leadership Team consists of the Headteacher, Deputy Head, Inclusion Leader and School Business Manager.
Each class is staffed by a class team of four qualified Early Years educators, led by Qualified Teacher with an Early Years specialism. The children’s learning environment is carefully planned by the class team to provide a wide range of learning experiences for the children both inside the classroom and outside. Each class team is joined by 2 meals supervisors over lunchtime.
The teachers are qualified Early Years specialists. They are primary teachers, who are trained to teach children age 3 – 11 years, and have chosen to specialise in the Early Years of education.
The nursery nurses have completed child care and education courses to a Level 3 standard or above, which include the 2 year NNEB (Nursery Nurses Examination Board), BTec Early Years Course, NVQ Level 3 (or above) Early Years & Education, and Diploma in Children’s Workforce; which qualify them to work with children aged 0 – 7 years.
Our Early Years Teaching Assistants are supported in gaining Early Years Qualifications and we are fortunate that they too have Level 3 qualifications, as do some of our meals supervisors.
Our Inclusion and Diversity Leader supports all class teams to ensure that children’s needs are met in school.
The school is committed to having a trained workforce and supports school staff in gaining Early Years qualifications and developing professionally.
The school also provides placements for childcare and education students from local colleges and Universities.
The class-based staff are supported by a number of other professionals including the School Business Manager, Administrative team, Premises Officer and Housekeeper who work hard to ensure the smooth running of the school.
